Collecting Memories

Yesterday we collected flies
like artifacts, rested them
in the pits of our pockets.
We chased bugs
that floated up
to the tips of trees.
We swept the tall grass,
beating plants,
and bottled beetles
scrounging earth and woods.

And our skin skimmed
the surface of a lake
the summer sand
sifted through our toes.
Our silk sun hair
brushed the horizon
and we slept on rocks
as the moon swam deep
in the river.
